SIFCare Wins 1st Prize in Disaster Preparedness Video-Making Contest

For the National Disaster Consciousness Month 2015, the Office of Civil Defense hosted a video-making contest with the theme, “Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng bansa” (Family and community preparedness assist in a nation’s progress). SIFCare volunteers were invited to join the contest by municipal officer Gino Mabalot.

Among 32 entries, SIFCare’s entry landed in the top 5 finalists. Volunteers shared the video and invited others to watch and like it as well, thus generating further awareness on the importance of always being prepared for a disaster.

On July 31, the final rankings were announced at an awarding ceremony. The judges included representatives from CHED (Commission on Higher Education), DOST (Department of Science and Technology), PIA (Philippine Information Agency), DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government), and OCD Region 1.The video by SIFCare volunteers won 1st place.

A big thank you to all those those who supported and shared the video to their family and friends. It will now be officially used by the OCD in their information education campaign. As one of the judges commented: “The message (of the video) was very clear. We certainly hope that the lesson is learned and applied: ALWAYS BE PREPARED.”
