Successful International Yoga Day Celebration in La Union

A successful International Yoga Day celebration was conducted by SIFCare last June 21, 2016 at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Training Center in San Fernando City, La Union. To kick off the event, SIFCare volunteers presented a demo on living the yoga lifestyle, sharing several healthy herbal tea recipes followed by self massage techniques. Milagros Celeste, SIFCare Regional Coordinator then discussed the real meaning of yoga and meditation with almost 60 participants present.

Yoga asanas (exercises) were led by Lalah de Dios, a certified yoga instructor, accompanied by guided relaxation with SIFCare volunteer Sky Rudd amidst rose petals, flowering orchids and scented candles, setting a calm and comfortable atmosphere for all. A question and answer segment followed soon after where most attendees asked very interesting questions.

SIFCare distributed United Nations International Yoga Day shirts for the first 20 walk-ins who registered and also conducted a Raffle Draw for all with the following prizes: 1st prize was a home blender to prepare fresh meals and smoothies with while the other prizes were a “Who Are You Book” with Music Box, a 2 GB Micro SD card, a heater pot for use in preparing herbal teas, and SIFCARE thermal mugs.

Each one who joined our celebration that day received a Certificate of Participation from SIFCare and a goodie bag which included a ½ kilo of Organic Rice, “Yoga Oneness in Love “ booklet with a special bookmark, and tarragon and curry pata plants for tea. Snacks of healthy vegetarian burgers and banana muffins were served with free-flowing herbal tea.

Everyone who was present said they enjoyed the event very much. Their bodies felt young and so relaxed, yet their minds were stimulated from the useful knowledge gained which can easily be adapted in their own homes and shared with their family, friends and the community.

We look forward to celebrating next year’s International Yoga Day with everyone again!
