SIFCare & Bantay Dagat beach cleanup

Last Friday, June 24, 2022, volunteers of SIFCare and Bantay Dagat helped clean the beach as part of their weekly Cleanup program. Bantay Dagat group was headed by its president, Mr Edwin Wayas.

Every Friday, the two groups gather themselves in specific locations in San Juan, La Union to make sure they get as much trash up off the beach as they can.
Volunteers brought their own reusable and biodegradable bags and gloves to make the activity as green as possible. Garbage they collected were mostly plastic including plastic bags, plastic bottles, diapers, plastic cups, cigarette butts etc.

SIFCare volunteers said, that beach cleanup activity is important because it improves the coastal and ocean ecosystem. It makes the beach a nicer, safer place for everyone including for the sea turtles which are known to nest at the local beach of San Juan, La Union.

Both groups encouraged everyone to participate and get involved. They also emphasized that no special training is required to be a beach cleanup volunteer. So if you are interested to join next Friday, send us a private message or text 0917 517 22 73 and look for Dixie Palmos.
