Wellness and Tranquility at La Union Provincial Jail

much-needed dose of wellness and tranquility

On August 21, 2024, SIFCARE brought a much-needed dose of wellness and tranquility to the La Union Provincial Jail. In response to an invitation from Engineer Khevin Guzman of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), La Union, Pangasinan, and Qatar Chapters, SIFCARE volunteers conducted a wellness program for the jail’s employees and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

The event was graced by the presence of the Provincial Jail’s employees, led by Retired Col. Warden Virgilio Pascua.
Dr. Antonio Tamayo, a SIFCare volunteer and medical doctor, delivered enlightening talks on the pillars of health, offering valuable insights into holistic well-being.

Following these talks, the group conducted NADA Acudetox sessions, a special acupuncture therapy that stimulates specific points on the ears to promote relaxation and balance. To complement the physical rejuvenation, mindfulness meditation sessions were also held, guiding participants to find inner peace and reduce stress.

For (PDLs), the experience was a much-needed respite from the challenges of confinement. The stress and anxiety that often accompany imprisonment can have a profound impact on their mental and physical health. By introducing NADA Acudetox and meditation, SIFCARE offered these individuals a chance to experience relaxation and stress relief, even within the confines of their cells.

Both the employees and PDLs expressed their gratitude to the volunteers for bringing these wellness practices into the jail. They shared their experiences of feeling more relaxed and at peace after the sessions. The event served as a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, it is possible to find moments of tranquility and well-being.

Beyond the wellness activities, IECEP and SIFCare provided wellness kits and snacks to the participants. These small gestures of care and support demonstrated their commitment to the well-being of the jail’s population.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers who made this event possible: Bernadette Ben Torres, Bermudez, Dixie Palmos, Harry Capulong, and Karlo Salazar. Their contributions are a proof to the power of human compassion and the positive impact that individuals can have on their communities.

Let’s continue to inspire others and promote wellness in all aspects of life. Together, we can create a more compassionate and supportive society.
