SIFCare Representatives Attend Marine Conservation Workshop

SIFCare representatives attended a seminar workshop entitled: “Towards A Sustainable Philippine Sea Cucumber Industry: Sea Cucumber R&D Feedback and Workshop – North Western Luzon” in Hotel Ariana Bauang, La Union from August 16 to 17, 2018. Prof. Marie Antonette J. Meñez from the Marine Science Institute at the University of the Philippines in Diliman headed the workshop.

The UP Marine Science Institute are conducting studies on biophysical and genetic connectivities of sea cucumber resources to identify ecologically meaningful management units in key biogeographic regions in the country. This is part of the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST  PCAARRD) research program entitled: Enhancing sea cucumber production: Uncovering and utilizing genetic resources for sustainable development.  Participants included were representatives from national government agencies, the academe, selected LGUs, sea cucumber collectors and traders and NGO’s.
