SIFCare PDO invited as Resource Speaker for Summit of Consciences for the Climate

Climate advocates, leaders and representatives of faith-based organizations, environmental groups, civil society, the academe, and government agencies signed the “Call to Conscience” at the Summit of Conscience for the Climate convened by Senator Loren Legarda. It encourages leaders and representatives to come to the conference primarily as a conscious human being not just a representative of a government or agency. During Sen. Legarda’s speech in UN Summit 2015, she said that the Philippines is a minor emitter of greenhouse gases but among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has expressed its commitment to roll out the Summit to its regional offices, said Legarda who is also the UN Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation. With this, DepEd invited SIFCare to be a resource speaker for this event.

Ramon Benito L. Tamayo, the SIFCare Program Development Officer, was the resource speaker for the Summit of Conscience for the Climate. He spoke on Climate Change Adaptation. It was held in the Regional Educational Learning Center, San Fernando, La Union last October 12, 2015. Sir Tamayo explained the climate change and gave a comprehensive measures to adapt situation that we are facing.

Participants were from the Department of Education Region 1, Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), National Nutrition Council, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Christ the King College, Philippine National Police and Bukas Palad Foundation. All the participants were very amazed by the presentation. It gave them the whole picture of what is really happening and what we can do to help Mother Nature. The values shared by Mr. Tamayo struck their hearts and inspired them to work together and care for our environment. After the talk, participants had a workshop and answered the questions: “Why do I care?” and “How do I show that I care?” They also had their commitment setting after the group workshop.

With this successful event, the participants from the different agencies signified their intention to invite Mr. Tamayo for more speaking engagements on Climate Change Adaptation. Participants are also looking forward to visiting the Agro-Forest Farm of Sir Tamayo in Dasay, San Juan, La Union.

[gdlr_tab title=”Rogelio Yapti, DepEd Region 1″]“I have attended seminars already about Climate Change but so far this is the best with our very good speaker, Sir Ramon Tamayo, the previous seminars on CCA that I have attended was participated in by different speakers coming from different agencies while this seminar that we just had today, we only have one speaker but the explanation of how to protect Mother Earth was so simple, it really touches our heart of what Sir Tamayo said, it was very clear to me, so as a member of a Deped Family, we hope that in one of our trainings in the DepEd, we will invite him to be our speaker. Thank you very much.”[/gdlr_tab]
