A Ridge-to-Reef Experience for BHC Students

On September 17, BHC Educational Institution brought together 60 hand-picked students aged 10-15 for an educational journey. This expedition aimed to emphasize the importance of sustainable ecosystems and ways to protect them.

The day began with a coastal cleanup aligning with the global initiative of International Coastal Cleanup Day. These students collected and sorted the trash, leaving the coastline cleaner and more pristine. The cleanup resulted in the collection of 12 sacks of trash

Following the cleanup, the students attended the Sea Turtle 101 Workshop. They gained insights into the significance of these creatures, the threats they face, and strategies to protect and preserve them.

In the second part of the event, participants explored the ridge environment at @lotusvalleyfarm . Immersed in the forest, they learned about the forest ecosystem, tree identifications, and the importance of mindful consumption. A nutritious plant-based lunch was served, promoting a healthier diet for a healthier planet.

As part of a school activity, each group crafted posters reflecting their event experiences, centered around environmental themes. One insightful student shared, “We are like turtles, slowly crawling towards the ocean. Similarly, what we are doing may be slow and gradual, but it will leave a lasting impact on our planet.”

This day was a blend of learning, inspiration, and action, reminding everyone that small steps can lead to significant changes. Together, they demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact on our beautiful planet.

A special shout-out to the Rotary Club of San Fernando City North, Inner Wheel Club of La Union North and NEWT La Union chapter for joining in the coastal clean up.
